Biography
I hold a PhD in English Language and Linguistics from the University of Sheffield, an MA in Historical Language Studies, and a BA in English Language and Linguistics from the University of Rzeszów. I also hold a BSc in Management and Marketing and a MSc in Finance Management from Rzeszów University of Technology.
Prior to joining the University of Sussex in 2011, I worked at the University of Leeds, University of Sheffield, and Sheffield Hallam University. I was also involved in teaching at the A-Level and EFL teaching.
From January 2013 I will join the new editorial team of English Today (Cambridge University Press) as an Assistant Editor. Between 2006–2009 I was an Editorial Assistant for Cognitive Linguistics (de Gruter Mouton).
Role
Lecturer in English Language and Linguistics
Study Abroad Advisor for the School of English
Admissions Tutor for English Language and English Language and Literature programmes (with Melanie Green and Lynne Murphy)
Responsible for organising ROLLS research seminars
**Please note that I work a four-day week (flexitime) schedule. I am not on campus on Mondays**
My research interests lie within the overlapping areas of sociolinguistics, history of English, and cognitive semantics. I have recently been involved in developing methods for tracing and analysing semantic variation and change of evaluative adjectives. I am also interested in corpus research and exploring the role of perceptions and attitudes in language. With regards to my supervision, I welcome students keen to explore any aspect of language variation and change.
