Bridge Building Competition

1st year Engineering & Product Design students test their bridges

Students on the year 1 Mechanics module are set an engineering challenge of designing and building a bridge. Each team has the same specifications, restrictions and materials but they can apply any design they choose. The bridges are then tested to see how much weight they can take before breaking. The weight of the bridge and the load it can take are calculated and a winner announced. The experiment forms part of the assessment for this course but is also a fun way to end the first term.
