For the second successive year, the University is offering two sector-leading scholarship schemes for postgraduate study at Sussex.
The first of these awards, the Sussex Graduate Scholarship, is aimed at Sussex undergraduates. All Sussex students who achieve a first-class or upper second-class honours degree in 2014, and who are offered a full-time place on an eligible Masters course in 2014, will receive a scholarship worth up to £3,000 to help towards tuition fees.
Students with a first-class degree will be eligible for a £3,000 award and students with an upper second-class degree for a £2,000 award, in the form of a fee waiver. There is an unlimited number of awards on offer.
The Chancellor’s Masters Scholarship welcomes applications from students who have or expect to achieve a first-class honours degree from any UK university and who are offered a full-time place on an eligible Masters course at Sussex. There are more than 100 scholarships available in the form of a fee waiver, each worth £3,000 to help towards tuition fees.
The University first introduced the scholarships in the run-up to the 2013-14 academic year and they helped the University to:
- treble the intake of Sussex students with a first progressing directly to full-time Masters study in 2013-14 (56 compared with 18 in 2012-13),
- almost double the intake of Sussex students progressing directly to full-time Masters study with a 2:1 in 2013-14 (127 compared with 67 in 2012-13)
- recruit 78 non-Sussex students with a first-class degree.
Both scholarships will be publicised at the Postgraduate Open Day on campus on Wednesday (4 December) and staff are being asked if they could alert students to the scholarships and inform colleagues at other universities so that they might pass on the message to their students.
Sussex’s campaign to promote the 2013 scholarships was last month shortlisted for a national award.
