IT Services (ITS)
You will be issued with an ITS username and password when you start work at Sussex. If you haven't received yours yet, pop in to IT Services in the Shawcross Building with some identification, or telephone them on extension 8090.
IT Services provide specialised support and software for researchers, as well as training and practical assistance.
Researcher Support
The Research Support Team in IT Services provides technical advice to researchers based at Sussex and operates a high performance computing system suitable for dealing with research data.
The team works closely with research groups and individuals, offering technical support and specialised training as well as Apollo, a centralised high-performance computing platform designed for intensive calculation and large data storage requirements.

Software
IT Services purchase and license a number of specialised software packages including: online survey tools; LabView; SPSS; ArcView; and Sibelius. To request additional software installations on your University of Sussex PC, you will need agreement from your Principal Investigator or line manager, as there may be a budget implication for licensing. Once you have authorisation, make your request via the ITS online support form at www.sussex.ac.uk/its/help/report
Training
A range of practical IT training enables researchers to use the available technology with confidence and expertise, including courses in:
- Staff introduction to using IT at Sussex
- Using Sussex Direct teaching pages (for Associate Tutors)
- Endnote, Dreamweaver, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Basic audiovisual training for lecture theatres and seminar rooms
- Using StudyDirect (our Moodle-based VLE) for teaching
