Three Minute Thesis (3MT)

We are pleased to announce that the deadline for entries for our first Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition has been extended until Monday 9th May.

Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Logo3MT is an academic competition that challenges doctoral researchers to describe their research within three minutes to a general audience. It celebrates the discoveries made by research students and encourages you to communicate the importance of your research to the broader community.

The first Sussex 3MT competition wil help to raise the profile of our thriving doctoral research community, and is taking place on Wednesday 8th June.

3MT entrants will be invited to take part in a bespoke training event taking place on Tuesday 17th May, to help you prepare and develop your research communication skills. This event will be run be GradTrain, presentation and communication experts, who have been part of 3MT judging panels at other universities, and have experience helping doctoral researchers to prepare

Those doctoral researchers who take up the challenge will be in with the chance of winning:

  • 1st Prize: up to £1000 travel expenses towards an international conference (NB: payment will be in the form of reimbursement)
  • Runner Up: iPad Air Wi-FI
  • Peoples’ Choice Award: iPad mini

All those taking part in the University competition will have their presentations filmed and uploaded to the University website.

The winner of the University competition will receive a place in the UK Semi Final of the 3 Minute Thesis, with a chance to go to the UK Final.
