How to make an appointment

There are two kinds of initial appointments that you can book:

  • Reception Interviews

  • Drop-In appointments.   phone box

Reception Interviews are used to discuss how a series of counselling sessions might help.  They last 30-minutes, and a member of the staff team will think with you about whether or not might benefit from counselling as well as discussing other resources that are available.

See Information sheet 1

If you come for individual counselling you will normally be seen for up to 6 sessions, each lasting 50 minutes, on a weekly basis.  Your counsellor will probably not be the same one you see for the Reception Interview, but will the the one who sees you once your regular sessions start.

We aim to keep the wait between the Reception Interview and  First Appointment for Counselling  as short as possible but the waiting time depends on the level of demand for our services.

Please complete the initial Reception interview form [DOC 90.50KB] and CORE form [PDF 167.52KB] and bring them with you to the first session. If you need help with this, please ask the Receptionist.

Drop-In appointments  can be used for a one-off 20-30 minute appointment with a counsellor to discuss anything that's troubling you.  These appointments can only be booked up to one working day in advance.

You do not need to complete any additional forms before you attend a Drop-In appointment.

If it seems that some ongoing counselling might be appropriate, you would be able to book a Reception Interview to discuss this further and review your options.
