Lucila Newell

Lucila holds a PhD in Geography from the Open University and a BA in Sociology from the University of Buenos Aires. Her PhD focused on the politics of waste in Buenos Aires, and used insights from actor-network theory and theories of materiality in dialogue with political and democratic theory, worked through an ethnographic study in two different sites. Having children while doing her PhD meant her research interests veered in a new direction, and she is in the process of developing her research agenda using her theoretical background to understand issues of feminist mothering, and more specifically, the politics of breastfeeding.

She is currently an Associate Tutor at the School of Global Studies, applying for grants, volunteering as a breastfeeding peer supporter and working on creating a collaborative research project with the NHS Breastfeeding Peer support team in Brighton.
