
What is Learning to Lead?
A new fully-funded leadership training programme for 25 students ( undergraduates or taught programme postgraduates)
The University Careers and Employability centre have teamed up with an international management training consultancy, Clemorton, to offer students the chance to apply for a fully funded place on a leadership training programme aimed at giving students the opportunity to
- Develop a real understanding of the skills and techniques of leadership, management and policy research
- Explore and test out ways of making an effective contribution to policy research and evidence-based debate
- Present a policy proposal to academic leaders
There are 25 places on the programme which are fully funded by the University. The programme will use a mixture of group and individual exercises, role play and experiential learning. Topics will include team working, decision making and understanding change management. The aim of the workshop is to engage and stimulate participants in a fun, participative environment. Personal coaching, support and feedback will also be provided for all participants and there will be the opportunity to meet academic leaders and alumni. On completion of the programme students will benefit from affiliate membership of the Institute of Leadership and Management.
The programme will consist of the following:
- Launch Lunch for all participants hosted by the Vice Chancellor , Michael Farthing Weds 3 March
- Training programme covering leadership skills and policy research development Mon 22 – Friday 26 March on campus
- Away- day to visit alumni in London ( between 8 April and 7 May) to discuss policy debate and development
- Team presentations of policy research case studies to academic panel , including Bob Allison, Pro Vice Chancellor - Sat 8 May and Fri 14 May
- Final Dinner with Vice Chancellor Weds 16 June
