Centre for Community Engagement (CCE) short courses and day schools are open to everyone, and are designed to be accessible, stimulating and enjoyable. We hope that interesting subject matter, a good tutor and a supportive group of fellow students combine to make your experience rewarding and worthwhile.

Our courses cover a wide range of subjects. They are taught in a variety of time slots - on weekends, weekdays and evenings - to suit the diverse needs of those with busy lives. They are held on campus at Falmer or at venues across Sussex, and many include field trips to relevant local sites. Some of these courses are designed to help you develop existing interests, or to explore a new subject, while others give you an opportunity to build professional skills and understandings. This year, as well as running courses that take place over a number of weeks, we are reintroducing our successful day schools. We are also continuing a selection of longer programmes in Art History, Creative Writing and Practical Archaeology.

Partnership courses

Courses are offered either directly by CCE or via one of our educational partners. Where a course is run by a partner, this organisation takes the bookings and provides the venue.

Support and guidance

It is our policy to do all we can to meet the learning needs of each of our students. If you are unsure about your direction or whether a course is right for you, please ring a member of the CCE team who will be pleased to talk through your plans and discuss your options. The telephone number is: 01273 678527.

CCE tutors

Our tutors are experienced in teaching adults and understand the concerns of people who may lack confidence about studying at University, or who are combining study with other commitments. CCE tutors are experts in their field and are engaged with current academic debates and with relevant professional practice.

Students with disabilities

We are keen to ensure that students with disabilities are not disadvantaged in studying. When enrolling, please let us know what support or facilities you need. CCE, in compliance with the Education Needs and Disability Act 2001, will make every reasonable adjustment possible to teaching, learning and assessment to enable students with disabilities to participate in its courses.

Half term and vacations

If your course runs for more than 10 sessions it is likely it will stretch over two terms. Classes break for Christmas and Easter, and some courses break for half term.

Transport and car parking at Sussex

There are several car parks on campus. Parking charges apply Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm. Alternatively transport by bus or train is frequent and easily accessible.
