CCE's Research and Development Unit (CERADUS)

This unit was established in 2004 and brings together a range of skills and expertise within the field of adult education and lifelong learning. Over the last decade CCE has successfully bid for European and other funding for a range of research and community development activities that have brought 'non-traditional' students into higher education.

Community Development Activities

In the past years, this work has focused primarily on residents in areas of social and economic disadvantage in both Hastings and Brighton, work with minority ethnic communities including refugees and asylum seekers, and members of the Deaf community in the South East. Students have benefited from a range of educational activities delivered by CCE in partnership with other stakeholders such as the Workers Educational Association (WEA), Residents Associations, FE colleges, 1066 Housing Association and Local Authorities. In addition, students have been able to access support for childcare, travel and learning resources. As a consequence of this work, hundreds of learners have gained qualifications in ICT, at GCSE, NVQ 3 and HE level one, moving on to further learning, voluntary or paid employment.
