While you are in Brighton try:

• ProjectV's Opportunity Search - USSU's Student Community Action scheme with lots of volunteering opportunities in the Brighton area
• Community Base Volunteer Search - search for volunteering opportunities in Brighton & Hove by service provided, people served and area
• Brighton & Hove Community & Voluntary Sector Forum - search for members by service provided or people served. Great for finding local voluntary work
• ESCIS - search for community organisations and charities in East Sussex, Brighton and Hove
• Sussex Police Authority: Independent Custody Visitor Scheme - volunteers are recruited by the Police Authority to check on the welfare of people detained at Sussex police custody centres. Travel expenses are reimbursed

For national opportunities try:

• Do-it.org.uk - online database of volunteering opportunities. Search by postcode to find vacancies in your area
• Volunteering England: I want to Volunteer - find your nearest volunteer centre (England Only), major organisations that place volunteers, specialist areas and more
• Vinspired - national volunteering opportunities for 16-25 year olds. Search for opportunities, find advice in your local area, earn v Awards

For volunteering abroad try:

• WorldWide Volunteering - Excellent resource with more than 1000 volunteer organisations and over 300,000 placements. Search by region, activity, date and price. Free registration required
• Intervol - online database of overseas volunteering opportunities. Search for specific or general placements and the Timebank directory of over 500 organisations. Free registration required
• International Citizen Service - Funded by DFID, and run by 6 placement organisations, this gives young volunteers (18-25) a unique opportunity to do voluntary development work abroad. An £800 fundraising target is required, but everything else is included (flights, visas, food & accommodation etc.)
