Ascending Mount Calvary, we found in the place where the Lord was crucified the place where the wood of the cross was fixed in the stone and beside it an image of the Crucified in mosaic work, facing west just as the Lord was crucified; and at the foot of the stone into which the cross was fixed are positioned the blessed Virgin and blessed John, who stand next to the cross and look east towards the face of Christ.
