Student shortlisted in Sony World Photography Awards youth competition

Coline's competition entry

A photograph by Sussex student Coline Dunya Aksoy has been shortlisted in a global competition.

Coline, who studies Biomedical Sciences, was recognised for her submission to the Sony World Photography Awards youth category.

Inspired by fashion photography, Coline shot a portrait series using Prisma fabric she found in Brighton’s lanes.

“I loved the delicate and simple effect it gave on the model’s face. I decided to submit this photo and was delighted to find out it came out in the shortlist!”

From a young age Coline showed interest in photography and took to exploring the work of world-renowned artists through archives and exhibitions.

“The incredible range, especially the ones at the Barbican and Somerset House, piqued my curiosity in the weird and wonderful world of fashion photography, which mixes fine art and portraiture. These led me to start experimenting with my friends, using different fabrics, make-up and set designs.

You can view Coline’s work and other entries at the Sony World Photography Awards website.
