Internal applications sought for Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) role

The University has an exciting new career opportunity for a Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research), to assist the Vice-Chancellor and the Director of Research and Enterprise Services in developing and implementing the University’s research strengths and research strategy.

Vice-Chancellor, Adam Tickell, said: “This is a crucial research leadership role at Sussex during a time of significant change across the University. The successful applicant will build on our research reputation – one that includes a 2017 QS World Ranking that rated us number one in the world for Development Studies and highly rated for research.

“The DPVC (Research) will play a key part in enhancing research excellence at a university whose staff has included three Nobel Prize Winners, a winner of the Crafoord prize, and 21 Fellows of world-leading academies and societies.”

The successful applicant will work closely with Gordon Harold, Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (REF) to ensure that we enhance our research reputation, raise research grant income and support excellence in research and scholarship   

Applicants should have a track record of research leadership and excellent interpersonal skills. Experience of building relationships with key funders will be important as will experience of working with senior Professional Services staff to drive change and deliver positive outcomes.

The appointment will be on a 0.5 FTE basis and will be combined with an existing academic post.
