Tell us what you think of Sussex – and win some fantastic prizes

We want to make sure our students’ time at Sussex is the best it can be, so we have asked an independent research agency (i-graduate) to gather crucial feedback, via the Student Barometer survey.

Relevant students received an email on 29 October from i-graduate with more information and a link to the survey, followed by reminder emails to those who have not yet completed it. You can also access the survey by going to the survey website and entering your registration number.

It should take only 15 minutes to complete and we really appreciate our students taking the time to share their thoughts with us.
So as a thank you, students who have been invited to take part in the survey are automatically entered into a series of weekly prize draws once they have completed it.
Each week throughout November, 30 students who have already taken part each win a £30 Wahaca voucher.
When the survey closes, all students who have completed the survey will be entered into the final draw and two lucky winners will have the chance to choose between a £500 travel voucher with STA Travel (the world’s largest student travel agency) to spend on the holiday or flight of their choice or a £500 voucher for Currys PC World (for all the latest technology).
In addition, i-graduate will automatically enter them into its worldwide prize draw to win a £1,000 cash prize or suggest a £1,000 donation to charity.
The survey (and prize draw entry) closes on Friday 30 November.

All responses are confidential and anonymous and will be used for research purposes only.
Professor Kelly Coate, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education and Students, says: “This is your university and it’s important that you get to have your say in how it is run.”

I'm an international masters student from South Africa. I've found the University of Sussex staff so welcoming and helpful. The campus is beautiful and the students come from all over the world. I also found that there were loads of societies and sports clubs to join so I've joined a couple of them. I'm loving it here so far.

  • Positives
    • Very friendly staff
    • Very accessible software
    • Lectures are fun and kept interesting
    • Food isn't too expensive
    • There are treats like bubble tea or Krispy Kreme donuts
    • There is an active and engaging student life with all types of events going on
    • As a non-drinker I never feel left out of events
    • Dhaba cafe is vegan/vegetarian and offers really delicious food
  • Negatives
    • A lot of stairs/difficult to get around buildings
    • Login information online continuously requires different forms of logins without clear instructions whether it is just email required or username or username with @Sussex
    • Dhaba cafe staff can be very rude sometimes
    • Postgraduate classes are mainly in 3 hour blocks meaning we only get to see our lecturers once a week.

I'm an LL.M student (Doha cohort). The course is one of the best of those I have undergone. As a legal professional, it has equipped me with a set of skill that are really sought after in my career field .

All the lecturers are amazing! They really explain everything thoroughly in detail and are always willing to help. The campus is great and has all we need, although the library in my opinion lacks seating for students and it's always hard to find a place to sit. The societies are slightly limited compared to other universitie... there isn't that many, but it's still okay. It's a very diverse uni which I love!! There's lots of different cultures and backgrounds. The one thing I don't like about Sussex at all is Park Village accomodation... it's very isolating as there's no dining tables and sofas, everyone eats on their own.

IDS, is a great institution and a lot of thought-provoking ideas and discussions happen every day helping us to get deeper into the subject! One of the best decisions in my life to choose Sussex to the other universities I had got.

I am a final  student at Sussex in International Relations and Spanish. I have thoroughly enjoyed te academic support and module content from the IR department although I am not as pleased with the languages department. I really like that this is  campus uni as it makes everything very convenient, especially with the dentist and doctor on campus. Overall, my experience at Sussex has been positive with a couple negative elements.

Sussex Uni is a nice place for study, beautiful campus with friendly staff. However, the library is always crowded with people, sometimes its quite noisy.

Besides, some indicators around the school and inside the building are not clear enough, e.g. staff room in Art A, the seminar room in Richmond Building is hard to find, I suggest that school can add some building floor plan (map for that floor) in every entrance so new students and staff can find the room easily.
