Important changes in East Slope this weekend

This weekend, the final occupants of East Slope residences will depart for the summer, and the Estates team will begin decommissioning the area in preparation for the next phase of construction of our new accommodation.

As a result, some changes will occur in and around East Slope this weekend and, with the exception of departing residents and their families, the East Slope area will be restricted to authorised personnel only.

East Slope bar

East Slope bar will serve its final pint this Friday night, closing at 11.00 pm. Work will commence early on Saturday 16 June to remove the furniture and equipment in the East Slope bar.

Some of these fixtures will be recycled in the Northfield social space, which is to be refurbished over the summer and will re-open in September as a new Students’ Union café bar. Meanwhile, the Falmer bar will remain open throughout the summer for everyone to enjoy.

Car parking and transport

The disabled parking spaces adjacent to Swanborough will be out of use from Friday 15 June.

East Slope car park will close permanently to parking – vehicles and bicycles parked in the East Slope car park must be removed by 8.00 pm on Friday 15 June.

The car park in East Slope will be available to residents and their families only for short-stay parking on Saturday morning so that residents can load their belongings at the end of their tenancy.

To mitigate the loss of the East Slope car park, over 350 car parking spaces have been created in the University’s new Jubilee car park, and the new Knights Gate car park will open to drivers on Monday 18 June, offering a further 60 spaces.

From 5.00pm on Friday, the Park Village bus stop will be closed. The nearest alternative bus stop is located at Lewes Court.

Access

Over the coming days, fencing will be erected along Refectory Road from Swanborough to the edge of the Brighthelm residences. Some traffic management along this route will continue to be required.
