Sussex alumni can now join Sussex Connect, a brand new, members-only networking and mentoring platform. It is designed to help alumni network easily, and offer practical careers tips and mentoring to peers, recent graduates and students. With the look and feel of a social media platform, and a downloadable phone app, Sussex Connect allows alumni to easily search for and contact friends around the world.

Alumni can sign up now through the Sussex Connect login page. All you need to register is a LinkedIn, Facebook or email address. Once your registration is approved, you will have full access to the site.

Alumni career tips
Each year our alumni voluntarily give their time in many different ways, and their careers advice is always highly valued. We know through our popular annual Make It Happen careers fortnight, where alumni talk about their career journeys after graduating, that these insights are an invaluable gift that our alumni can give to students.

Adam Tickell, Vice Chancellor, University of Sussex said:
“I’m delighted that Sussex Connect will allow alumni to forge new networks with each other and our students, both in the UK and around the world. I know our students have much to benefit from the practical advice you can share with them about life and work after Sussex, and I thank you in advance for your interest in this exciting new initiative.”

Mentoring
Many alumni have experience in mentoring programmes, either as a mentor or as a mentee, eMentoring or face-to-face. However, if you are new to mentoring or wish to refresh your skills, we offer clear mentoring guidelines based on best practice. We urge everyone joining the platform who is ‘willing to help’ to read these.

Marketing and Management student Jessica Kistnasamy, currently in her placement year, has been helping to test Sussex Connect. She said:

“It’s a great way to ask alumni who work in the communications industry – related to my field of study – for career development tips. I have already benefitted from regular contact with my Sussex alumni mentor who supported me through planning a real life communications campaign for an awards event. We used the mentoring guidance to set up our sessions, and I have learnt loads of practical new skills which I can demonstrate when applying for jobs once I graduate.”

We do hope you sign up and get networking now!
