Traversing the Academy: Experimental Arts Before and After Austerity

Is there a role for the university in supporting and producing experimental art? Might it provide artists with challenging experiences that only it can provide, of moving across academic disciplines, or working between communities inside and outside its walls? From post-punk video and music to contemporary live art and performance, this lecture will explore transverse relations across the educational institution as a structuring condition for the production of world-making culture, and the challenges posed to the sustainability of such relations in an age of austerity.
