Hostile Environments: a new politics of global space

Events of the last decade have underlined the limitations of formal migration controls. Wealthy states have intensified attempts to influence the behaviour of potential migrants long before they have arrived. This extraterritorial focus of migration control involves various forms of deterrence. Most of these initiatives are highly regressive and collectively they require a new spatial analysis of global inequality that draws on mobility justice.
