ESRC London Interdisciplinary Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership: PhD studentship ‘Towards a critical understanding of the emergence, development and implementation of integrated care pathways for frail, older people’
The ESRC London Interdisciplinary Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (LISS DTP) are inviting applications to apply for an ESRC-funded three-year doctoral collaborative (CASE) studentship in collaboration with our partners, The Health Innovation Network South London, Age UK Lambeth and Age UK Lewisham & Southwark to begin in October 2017.
The PhD study is entitled ‘Towards a critical understanding of the emergence, development and implementation of integrated care pathways for frail, older people’ and is currently being advertised on the LISS DTP website https://www.liss-dtp.ac.uk/case-studentships-student-applicants/. This studentship uses an ethnographic approach and draws on social science theory to explore the role, value and implications of integrated care pathways (ICPs) from different stakeholder perspectives, and the contexts shaping their emergence, development and implementation in practice, examining these issues in the context of ICPs for frail older people in Lambeth and Southwark, South London. Findings are expected to inform the development of clearer pathways and a framework to facilitate the implementation of ICPs to improve quality of care and outcomes for frail older people.
To be considered for this PhD, eligible applicants would need to have a social science background, as evidenced by a very good first degree (or be predicted to obtain) at first class or upper second class standard. Applicants will normally also have an appropriate Master’s degree (at distinction or at least high merit level) and / or another appropriate qualification. Studentships are only available for students who meet residency requirements set out by the ESRC here: http://www.esrc.ac.uk/skills-and-careers/studentships/prospective-students/am-i-eligible-for-an-esrc-studentship/. The studentship will cover the full cost of Home / EU fees for a PhD programme, and an annual stipend (the 2017 figure has not yet been set, but in September 2016 the amount was £16,296). If you are already studying and / or have been classed as ‘international’ for fees purposes, then you will not be eligible for a LISS DTP collaborative studentship. EU students may apply for a studentship on a fees-only basis. Stipend funding may be possible through institutional funding for successful EU student applications on a limited basis. As part of the studentship, the successful applicant will be able to apply for additional funds from LISS DTP’s Research Training Support Grant funding to help cover some of the research costs related to the studentship.
Information about how to apply for this studentship, together with other ESRC collaborative PhD studentships, is listed on the LISS DTP website link above. Application deadline is 12 April 2017, 17:00 (GMT) and applications should be sent to liss-dtp@kcl.ac.uk.
