Mobil 1 Team Sussex get to grips with their entry for the Formula Student competition

Each year, Sussex engineering students enter the Formula Student competition, designing and building a racing car to test against other universities. The competition, run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) challenges the students to provide a single-seater racing car which is low in cost, easy to maintain, reliable and high performance in terms of its acceleration, braking, and handling qualities.

Teams are judged on design, cost, presentation, technical specification and safety, along with a variety of dynamic tests including skid pans, acceleration and fuel economy. This year's Sussex team hope to rank higher than any previous team, and to encourage first and second years to get involved to start creating teams for the future.

For more information about the team, and to watch a short film about their plans, featuring BAFTA-winning Mark Evans, see www.teamsussex.eu
