Alumni support helps secure housing for law student
A bursary from the Hardship and Opportunities Fund has prevented a Sussex student from becoming homeless.
Jade Fish, a postgraduate law student, received the bursary to help towards the cost of accommodation, allowing her to complete her exams following an unexpected change in her circumstances
‘If it wasn't for this award I would have had to leave the University without doing my exams and start work immediately or face being homeless,’ said Jade.
She had tried all avenues to seek financial support and thankfully the Sussex Fund was able to offer a lifeline, allowing her to continue her studies rather than having to leave to support herself through full time work. She will finish her course in September and graduate in January with a Graduate Diploma in Law.
The University is grateful to all alumni who support the Sussex Fund and help students who come up against unexpected hardship. Jade would like to thank everyone who gave to support her and her peers: ‘This award really means everything to me as I have worked so hard on this course. I look forward to becoming a lawyer now and being able to contribute to this Fund in the future!’
The Hardship and Opportunities Fund is part of the Sussex Fund and is supported completely by alumni donations. If you’d like to find out more about helping students like Jade please visit the Sussex Fund webpages.
