Effects of social identity on responses to mass emergency evacuation

This site describes a research programme examining some of the psychological issues involved in mass evacuations in emergencies. In particular, we examined the extent to which collective behaviour is affected by social identity.

The research was initially funded by a three-year grant from the ESRC (ref RES-000-23-0446), which began in April 2004. The research team comprised Dr John Drury (PI), Prof Steve Reicher, Prof Damian Schofield and Dr Paul Langston. Dr Chris Cocking was the Research Fellow for the project overall, and Dr Andy Burton was the Research Fellow responsible for the computer programming aspects.
