The Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) is seeking a part time Research Fellow to assist with a case study on climate change and energy policy in the Chinese building sector. The successful candidate will predominantly be based in China, with some travel to the UK. He/she will work directly with Dr.Ying Chen, a Senior Research Fellow based in the Institute for Urban & Environmental Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) in Beijing.
The case study will form part of the large, multi-country Horizon 2020 research project ‘Transitions and risks analysis for climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies’ (TRANSrisk), which is led by the University of Sussex. The project is funded by a three year grant from the European Commission (September 2015 to August 2018).
The ideal candidate will have research experience of energy and climate change in the context of the Chinese building sector. They will speak, read and write a good standard of Mandarin and English. They will be currently based in China, or be willing to relocate for the duration of the project.
Note that the hours of this post will vary over the course of the contract, with 1 month full time (1.0 FTE) towards the start of the contract, 1 month full time (1.0 FTE) towards the end of the contract and 0.15 FTE at all other times. The periods of full time work will involve visits to the UK, to work with UK based TRANSrisk researchers.
