The University of Sussex in 2012 has continued to climb the rankings. We are one of only 15 UK universities to be listed in the top 20 of all four of the league tables. Sussex was also  shortlisted for 'University of the Year' in the 2011 Times Higher Education Awards. The latest national guides to higher education all show a rise for Sussex in the UK rankings.

Sussex teaching ranks among the leading universities in the Russell and 1994 Groups of research-intensive universities.

There were also strong performances among individual subjects at Sussex, with four subjects being rated number one in the UK: Mechanical Engineering, Philosophy, Physics and Astronomy and Social Work all had the highest overall or overall satisfaction scores in their subjects out of all universities in the UK. American Studies, Anthropology, Drama, Languages and Media Studies were also ranked in their respective top 10s.
