We are seeking to appoint a Senior Library Assistant to work within the Academic Services Section of the Library. This is a fixed term, full-time post for 6 months.
The post holder will be a member of the team that is responsible for providing resources and services to support research at the University. You will support the development of services to support Open Access (OA) and the University’s institutional repository, Sussex Research Online (SRO).
The post involves checking all records added to Sussex Research Online, to ensure accuracy and compliance with the HEFCE Open Access policy, including checking and applying publisher embargo periods.
You will seek to obtain the version of an item that can be made publicly available as appropriate. You will also liaise with publishers and authors to clarify copyright status, seeking permission to make items publicly available.
The post includes the promotion of OA at the University. You will deal with queries from academics on OA and SRO. You will also maintain the OA and SRO web pages and will work with the OA and Repository Support Officer to produce training material.
The post will also require gathering of statistics to support internal and external reporting.
To succeed in this post you must enjoy working as a member of a small team in a busy environment. You must be able to take initiative, be well organised and flexible. Good web and IT skills and excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
An understanding of the changes and trends in scholarly communication is essential.
