The Science Policy Research Unit is a department within the University of Sussex Business School. SPRU is internationally recognised as a leading centre of interdisciplinary research on science, technology and innovation policy.
Two full time, fixed term Research Support and Communications Assistant positions in SPRU have become vacant, one to work closely with two externally funded research programmes, the ‘Centre on Innovation and Energy Demand’ and ‘TRANSrisk - Transitions Pathways and Risk Analysis for Climate Change’.
The other post is to work with SPRU more widely, assisting the Sussex Energy Group, SPRU department communications, events and alumni relations, as well as assisting in the administration of a whole portfolio of research projects.
The Research Support and Communications Assistant role provides administrative support for the Department’s research activities and events, working closely with the Research Communications Coordinator, the Research Centre Manager, and Senior Faculty within the Department as required.
The successful applicants will be required to undertake a variety of tasks which include: assisting with the support offered to research and enterprise projects; booking travel and accommodation; processing invoices and expenses; web site updating, maintaining data and records; and assisting with the organisation of events and workshops.
The position would be suitable for someone with experience of research administration and communications, and an interest in event coordination, a highly organised and motivated individual able to multi-task with excellent attention to detail, able to work independently with little supervision, with energy and enthusiasm.
Good IT skills, including proficiency in using Microsoft Office and web management systems, as well as excellent written and communication skills are essential.
Please indicate which position you are interested in – CIED/TRANSrisk or SPRU Department. Extensions to the fixed term may be possible for both posts, but the CIED/TRANSrisk post is more dependent on external funding.
