Job description

The Department of Engineering and Design wishes to appoint a Post Doctoral Research  Fellow in Optoelectronics and Electrophysiology. The successful candidate will need to have a very strong profile in electronics and optoelectronics, knowledge of electrophysiology and a good understanding of wireless technologies. Experience of commercial-based development products for the medical area would be desirable, as would some familiarity with engineering product integration and development.

The successful candidate will be employed to work in phase 1 of a well-defined project with the possibility of future funding for a longer term, more substantial, phase 2 extension. The core function of this post is to take the results of a research project and develop a wireless sensor pre-production prototype demonstrator for the detection of cardiac activity in new-born babies. This is an ideal opportunity for an entrepreneurial individual with a technical background to join the team.

The successful applicant will be mainly concerned with the technical challenges involved in the final design, testing and validation of the system. This may involve working with potential vendors and end users, taking into account user requirements. Hence, the successful candidate will have excellent communication skills.
