Salary: Starting at £39,992 and rising to £47,722 per annum

We are seeking a highly motivated and capable senior post-doctoral researcher at the Grade 8 level to join the Space Research Group at University of Sussex. The successful candidate will play a major role in the development of novel III-V semiconductor detectors for X-ray and γ-ray photon counting spectroscopy.
The Space Research Group is based in the School of Engineering and Informatics, and also has strong links to the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences. The research group conducts fundamental and applied research on topics of relevance to Space Science, Defence, National Security, Optoelectronics, and Semiconductor Physics. As well as being focused on high quality academic outputs, the group is engaged in the economic development of its research for space and terrestrial purposes.
The successful candidate must have:
1) Extensive experience of characterising III-V X-ray, γ-ray, and/or β- particle detectors for photon/particle counting spectroscopy.
2) Extensive experience of using developmental ultra-low-noise preamplifier electronics.
3) Experience of semiconductor device thermal testing/cycling.
4) Experience working in a supervised or controlled radiation environment.
