ASSIGNMENTS

This is a one term, 1/4 weighted course that is assessed by a presentation, an essay, an evaluation report and an unseen examination (taken in the summer term). The marks are divided as follows; 10% presentation, 20% for the usability report, 30% for the project report and 40% for the unseen exam.

(i) A usability report based on the assignment carried out in the first exercise class is due on Thursday 6th November 16.00 hours. The report should be 1000 words, including diagrams, figures, and/or annotated screen shots and photos. It should follow the instructions as laid out in the assignment at the end of chapter 1 in the Interaction Design textbook. for further guidance go to the website

(ii) The project report is due in on Thursday 11 december at 16.00 hours. You are required to write a report, approximately 3000 words, based on the design and evaluation you have carried out for your website. The website should be viewable by a machine in the Department of Informatics, so it is important to include a URL or files on floppy/ zip disk. The report should include sections on the aims, introduction (background reading), method, analysis, discussion and conclusions. it is important to write it up as a report and not as an essay. guidelines on how to write up your project will be provided during the term.

When designing your website you will be expected to follow a user-centered approach. This will entail carrying out variuos evaluations of your designs and using the feedback to improve them. we recommend you use Dreamweaver or other authoring tool to develop your website, together with doing some HTML coding by hand. Webmonkey is an excellent resource for online tutorials for authoring and web-base tools : http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/ Also look at : www.learnthat.com/courses/computer/developer.shtml and www.webdesign.about.com/computer/webdesign/
