Christian Caterham is responsible for all the Apple Computer equipment within the School of Engineering and Informatics at the University of Sussex. This role involves the design, implementation and management of specialist Apple research / teaching facilities, whilst providing support to academics and students within the School.

Available Configurations
NFS network mounted home directory - Mac OS X 10.7.5 & 10.8.3
Apple desktop computers located in teaching labs and research labs allow any member of Informatics to log in using their Sussex username and password. These Mac’s mount /home, /its/teaching and /its/research. All the data you create whilst logged into your account is stored securely on the ITS fileserver and your data is backed up nightly by ITS.
• Nightly backup of user data
• Mac OS and application updates are automatically installed via Puppet.
• Log into any Mac OS X, Linux and Windows PC and access your files anywhere on campus.
• Access /home, /its/teaching and /its/research and webspace through the Finder.
• No local admin account
Local home directory - Mac OS X 10.7.5 & 10.8.3
People who would prefer to have their data stored locally should request this option.
• To access /home, /its/teaching and /its/research you will need to use SFTP or SMB. (details here)
• You will need to ensure you backup your data to either ITS /home or you can also use CrashPlan Pro (details here)

iOS Apple Developer Program for Informatics Students
Informatics students who would like to develop applications for iOS can be granted access to the Informatics iOS developer portal for free.
Please send your Device Name - e.g Name & Surname + iPhone 4S and Device Unique Identifier (UDID) to the Informatics helpdesk when requesting an invitation.

Informatics Computing help desk
A local help desk provides support that is specific to the needs of Informatics students and staff. The help desk is staffed by research students with considerable experience of the Informatics facilities and the specialist requirements of Informatics users.
