COGNITIVE MODELLING

Candidates must attempt TWO questions
- Using a language understanding program that you have studied as an
example:
- Explain with examples the stages the program goes through in
interpreting
a command for a simulated robot to carry out.
- Describe three sorts of barriers that may prevent the
system from understanding or executing a command.
- Briefly discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the program as a model
of human language understanding and performance.
- Using a Production System model of subtraction
that you have studied as an example:
- Explain with examples how the system models both correct and incorrect
subtraction behaviour.
- Explain with an example what is meant by `Conflict Resolution'.
- Briefly discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the program as a model
of human subtraction understanding and performance.
- Compare and contrast Symbolic Models, Connectionist Models and Cognitive
Architectures as explanatory tools in cognitive science.
