Books

Although the main work for the course is the programming exercises, the following books and articles may be useful for various parts of the course. There are three introductory texts that describe Pop-11. We have found that different students prefer different books, so we suggest that you try reading parts of all of them and see how you like them before deciding which to buy. None of them gives a complete overview of Pop-11. which has been expanding. The completely up to date documentation is in online ``REF'' files, but is not suitable for beginners. However, it is recommended that you buy the following:

SLOMAN, A.(1997) The Pop-11 Primer (TEACH PRIMER) from Celia McInnes, in Room 4C18 or available at http://www.informatics.sussex.ac.uk/local/support/doc/primer/index.html. This is essentially an updated version of the book by Barrett, Ramsay, and Sloman below.
