This is the official personal website for Allister Furey, DPhil Research Student in the Centre for Computational Neuroscience and Robotics (CCNR) at the University of Sussex, United Kingdom.
My research focuses on the investigation of biologically inspired approaches to the control of tethered airfoils (kites) for production of renewable energy from the wind. This is, in my opinion, the most promising high altitude wind energy technology. As part of this work we are also actively involved in modelling kites as flexible
heterogeneous arc shaped airfoils.
There is a summary of some of the huge benefits of using kites as opposed to wind turbines in the kite energy section.
This is a rapidly growing area, I have also tried to link to some of the projects and researchers working on kite modelling, generation hardware, control systems so you can get an overview of the work that is going on.
