Professor Robin Milner-Gulland

Robin Milner-Gulland is Research Professor of Russian and East European Studies at the University of Sussex, where he has taught in the School of European Studies since the 1960's.

Professor Milner-Gulland trained as an interpreter in the army, after which he studied Modern Languages as scholar and senior scholar at New College Oxford, under Professors J. Fennell and Dimitri Obolensky. He also spent a postgraduate year on an exchange studentship at Moscow University researching Russian and Balkan 14th-15th century culture under Professor N. Gudziy.

He has lectured and broadcast widely, including in Russia, and is an elected Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries.
