Raphael Gross

Raphael Gross is a senior lecturer in History at the University of Sussex. He is also Director of the Leo Baeck Institute in London.

His doctoral dissertation on 'Carl Schmitt and the Jews' was published in Germany in 2000 and came out with Suhrkamp. (A Japanese version was published in 2002 and an English and a French version will be published in 2005). He co-authored a book about Holocaust survivors in Switzerland, published in Zurich in 1999 (French edition, published in 2003).

He is currently writing a book on "moral values" during the Nazi era.

He is co-editor of the Leo Baeck Institute Year Book and has organized conferences in Switzerland, Germany, Israel and the UK. Raphael Gross teaches and works on German Jewish History and Thought, Modern German History (the Kaiserreich, The Great War, Weimar Republic, National Socialism, Holocaust, Post-war Germany), Intellectual History and has strong interdisciplinary research interests.
