Andrea Hammel

On 1 March 2004 Dr Hammel was appointed AHRC Research Fellow and Project Coordinator for the AHRC-funded project to create an online Database of British Archival Resources Relating to German-speaking Refugees, 1933-1950 (BARGE). Previously, Andrea Hammel had been the Research Coordinator for a pilot study funded under the British Academy larger grants scheme entitled 'The Kindertransport Children: Identity, Adaptation and Trauma', also located at the Centre. Andrea Hammel studied English, German and Comparative Literature and Sociology at the University of Essex and Sussex. Her DPhil dissertation on 'Everyday Life as Alternative Space in Exile Writing: The Novels of Anna Gmeyner, Selma Kahn, Hilde Spiel, Martina Wied and Hermynia Zur Mühlen' is currently prepared for publication with Peter Lang at the end of 2005. Her research interest include Exile Studies, women’s writing in English and German and autobiographical texts. She has organised numerous conferences and teaches German and Cultural Studies.
