The areas of Medical Imaging, Computer Aided Design, Finite Element Analysis and Rapid Prototyping, as an integrated approach, can provide a powerful tool for the biomechanical analysis of anatomical structures, the design of various medical devices and the treatment of complex pathologies. The Bio Medical Modelling Unit is able to offer expert advice and a comprehensive service in all aspects of medical modelling.

Anatomical Modelling

• Medical Rapid Prototyping (MRP): Physical 3D representation of anatomical parts with selective colouring and labelling.
• Computer Aided Design (CAD): Virtual 3D reconstruction and modelling of anatomical structures for design of medical devices.
• Finite Element Analysis (FEA): Virtual simulation of anatomical structures and medical devices.
• Customised Implant/Prosthesis Design

Additional Medical Imaging Services

• Image Transfer: MOD (Magneto-optical disc) to CDs, network communication to PCs, communication of image data.
• Image Conversion: Native scanner formats (Philips, GE, Hitachi, Picker, Siemens, Toshiba, etc) to DICOM or other known formats (BMP, JPG etc.)
• Image Processing: 2D/3D image segmentation, anatomical tissue identification and classification.
• Image Visualisation: 3D image reconstruction and modelling of anatomical structures.
