What is AUA?

The Association of University Administrators (AUA) is the professional association for all higher education managers and administrators. AUA was formed in 1993 by the merger of the Conference of University Administrators (CUA) and the Association of Polytechnic Administrators (APA).

There are some 3,400 members with branches in most UK universities and higher education colleges as well as within key decision-making bodies in HE. The Association's branch network and electronic mailbase lists keep it closely in touch with members' views.

The Sussex branch has about 30 members spread across the range of administrative functions: School Administration, Finance, Buildings and Services, Recruitment, Quality Assurance, Registry. The Sussex Branch Co-ordinator is Linda Gardiner, Essex House 106, ext 8583 Email: l.gardiner@sussex.ac.uk

AUA Mission Statement

The AUA is an open and accessible body for all those with administrative and managerial responsibilities in higher education in the UK and the Republic of Ireland among whom it seeks to promote the highest standards of professionalism.

AUA is committed to serving the aspirations of its members through:

  • The provision of appropriate training opportunities for professional development through its annual conference, specific training and development initiatives and publications; The establishment of information networks though Newslink and other means and the encouragement of links between members and groups of members;
  • Fostering links and exchanges of information with similar organisations in higher education overseas.
  • In furtherance of its mission, the Association seeks to enhance its status and credibility as a recognised professional and influential voice in higher education.

What are the benefits of membership?

Joining AUA will help your career in HE by keeping you informed of current issues and providing opportunities for professional development and sharing of best practice. Networking opportunities through conference, regional activities and electronic means will ensure that you are never isolated from your colleagues and can share information and expertise.
