Q: How much money do I need to bring with me for initial expenses?

A: You will need to bring sufficient funds to cover:

Q: How do I transfer funds to the United Kingdom?

A: This is explained comprehensively in the Fees & Finance section.

Q: Must I bring cooking pots, utensils etc?

A: You will need to provide these items for yourself but these can be bought on campus or locally quite reasonably after your arrival.

Q: What bedding is supplied and what must I bring?

A: You will need to provide your own towels and bed linen. However, a linen bale can be hired at a cost of £10 per term.

Q: How can someone from home contact me during my first few days at Sussex?

A: The International & Study Abroad Office (+44 1273 678422) will be happy to take a message from your family to pass on to you, by relaying the message to your School of Studies/Graduate Research Centre and to your residence. It is important, therefore, that you check your mail box in each place regularly for written messages.

Q: Can I send my luggage in advance?

A: Yes, this is possible but please see the Accommodation section for certain conditions.

Q: Can I work while studying in the UK?

A: With the exception of short-term students, all others are allowed to work part-time while studying.

Q: When should I expect to hear from the University again?

A:We shall be writing to you before your arrival at the University.

For students commencing in October we shall write to you at the following times:

a) All students will be sent a mailing during June by the International & Study Abroad Office, with details of travel arrangements.

b) There will be a further mailing with details of the Welcome and Information Programme and registration in early September.

For all students commencing in January, the International & Study Abroad Office will write in November.
